On Saturday, April 16th, Big Citizen HUB brought together over 400 volunteers for Global Youth Service Day, celebrating the desire and commitment of our city’s young people to make Los Angeles a better place. Together with our lead partner, Seeds of Hope, these volunteers turned unused land into productive gardens and orchards that will provide healthy and fresh food in areas of need across the county. What exactly did we accomplish?
- Planted 17 trees and over 600 seedlings across 13 gardens
- Built homes for bees
- Built garden beds and a retaining fence
- Completed one environmental curriculum hack with Environmental Charter High School
The seedlings and trees that we planted will produce over 75,000 servings of food that can feed 40 people every day for a year! The trees will produce millions of servings over their lifetime.
